LOS ANGELES - The mysterious woman riding with actor Morgan Freeman in an August car crash broke her silence Wednesday to say she's not his mistress - and she's suing him.
"I have been labeled as the 'other woman' and have been accused of having caused the breakup of his marriage," an emotional Demaris Meyer told reporters. "Nothing could be further from the truth."
Meyer, 48, said she met Freeman for the first time at a dinner party the night he drove her Nissan Maxima off a road in rural Mississippi and it flipped three times.
Freeman broke an arm and elbow. Meyer suffered broken bones and a head injury she said has led to short-term memory loss. Her lawsuit in Mississippi federal court claims a boozed-up Freeman, 71, was speeding.
Meyer admits she attended the party to meet the Oscar-winning star but said he was a "perfect gentleman" who offered to let her stay in a house on his property.
Lawyer Gloria Allred said Freeman has provided only "minimal" help to Meyer. His spokeswoman did not return a call.
